My Teacher is a Monster (No, I Am Not.) is an awesome book by Peter Brown. We meet a boy named Bobby whose teacher Ms. Kirby is a monster. She stomps, roars, and doesn’t allow paper airplanes. Until, he runs into Ms. Kirby at the park. She can leave school????? (I was always amused when I met kids who were shocked to find me outside of the library). And, Ms. Kirby does normal things at the park, and maybe isn’t as much of a monster as Bobby originally thought. The way Ms. Kirby is illustrated is excellent because she starts out kind of scary looking, and then becomes less and less scary as Bobby learns about her. So many kids are intimidated by their teachers and this book shows that teachers are (gasp!) normal people too. Love it!
