Practice Challenge
To encourage more practicing of assigned pieces and pieces chosen to play for fun, I’ve designed this challenge for students to practice more than I do! Plus, it’s a reading challenge, because students are encouraged to sight read new pieces for fun! The children’s librarian in me is absolutely thrilled.
The calendar for tracking practice pieces will be emailed to all families, and I will have copies hanging next to my front door. There are three ways to beat me:
- Single day practice
- Weekly practice accumulated during a week’s time Sunday through Saturday
- Monthly practice accumulated during the entire month
Prizes are TBD. 🙂 The first month of this program will be March 2024, so will begin March 3, 2024. It is completely optional, no one is required to participate. It is simply a fun opportunity for competition.
Rules:
- Add your name and the week’s dates to the weeklong calendar obtained from Ellen.
- Participants must be a student in Ellen Jepson’s piano studio. Practice of instruments other than piano & organ will not count towards this challenge.
- Write the names of the pieces you play and the number of times you play each one. If you run out of room on the calendar, write them on the back of the calendar.
- Winning is based on practicing at YOUR personal level. My piano and organ pieces are 1-6 pages long, and one piece can last several minutes. Student pieces are expected to be shorter than mine.
- Please practice pieces written at your level. For example, if you are in Bastien Level 2, the Bastien Primer is no longer your level. However, many pieces in the Bastien Level 1 supplemental books are appropriate for your level, and it’s also appropriate to re-play the pieces you loved from the Bastien Level 1 Method book.
- Example: If you practice 6 pieces at your level on a Monday, and I only practice 5, you will beat me and win!
- Are you wondering if songs from a particular book count? Text me and I’ll let you know.
