Esther’s Story

Esther’s Story was published in 1996, authored by Diane Wolkstein. This is a review of the brief, 30 minute audiobook, thus I did not see the illustrations. This biblical story is told in Esther’s voice, as though she was writing a diary. The listener/reader learns the origins of Purim through retelling of biblical and folkloric legend. There is a significant amount of imagined dialogue and conversations that I deemed awkward–we obviously don’t know what these characters were saying. I was able to look past this and enjoy listening to the story. After the book ends there is more information about Purim and the biblical origins. I recommend this for students in 3rd grade and up.
