Cougar-Read in May

BYU Alumni Rochester MN hosted a series of Zoom author visits in May as part of our Spring BYU Bonanza. As a former librarian, these visits left me pretty giddy each time. I love author visits. Each author had something new and exciting to say to us, and shared great tips about writing, publishing, and their journey as an author/poet.

Mark Buehner – Illustrator & Cara Buehner – Author

Mark’s career as an illustrator led to [Cara’s] collaboration with him, and together they have created outstanding picture books including the Snowmen at Night series, Fanny’s Dream, Dex, The Heart of a Hero, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Their books have been honored with multiple children’s choice awards, a CBC Children’s Choice Award, a Parent’s Choice Award, and ALA Notable Book designation, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Award, and Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold and Platinum awards, and have been on the NY Times Bestseller list.

Rosalyn Eves–author

Rosalyn Eves grew up in the Rocky Mountains, dividing her time between reading books and bossing her siblings into performing her dramatic scripts. As an adult, the telling and reading of stories is still one of her favorite things to do. When she’s not reading or writing, she enjoys spending time with her chemistry professor husband and three children, watching British period pieces, or hiking through the splendid landscape of southern Utah, where she lives. She dislikes housework on principle.

She has a PhD in English from Penn State, which means she also endeavors to inspire college students with a love for the English language.

Janette Rallison–author

How to Become an Author (if Ninja doesn’t work out as a career) What do authors do every day? Lots of revisions. Be prepared for people to tell you that your story is lame. Many of these people will be editors and agents. Ignore them. You can also use funny events from your life to give you plot ideas. Did your parents forget you at a gas station once? Your novel will be gold.
