Cougar-Read Storytime, Pt. 2

In Part 1, I described the important books used in the storytime. However, I didn’t explain yet how we convinced the Pumas from the Minnesota Zoo to return back to Apple Valley.

It was a participation project that included all the children who were logged in. The older kids participating were asked to participate first, to show the younger kids what to do. We asked those cougars that had been waiting outside my door, one by one, if they would help us at the end of the program. “Cougar, will you help us?”

Each cougar was carefully moved onto a board showcasing pictures from a Laura Numeroff book, If You Give a Mouse a Brownie. (Side note–is it just me, or did they not miss an amazing opportunity for alliteration in the title–could’ve said If you BUY a Mouse a Brownie). We replaced the “Mouse” with the picture of the “Cougars”, and retold the story as “If you give a COUGAR a Brownie” (chocolate mint, of course) (because we all know, Cougars love chocolate mint brownies.).
