To finish celebrating Christmas in July, here’s what I thought of the audiobook for A Boy Called Christmas, by Matt Haig.

A Boy Called Christmas is a story about a boy named Nikolas, who is nicknamed Christmas. Nikolas has lived a difficult life and owns one toy–a doll carved out of a turnip. His father disappears suddenly, and Nikolas feels the responsibility to go to the North Pole to save him.
On his journey, Nikolas meets several unusual characters, including reindeer, trolls, and elves. He learns about the oppression of the elven people. Can Nikolas save his father and assist the elves at the same time?
The story is well written, has some humor, and has definite villainy. There are surprises throughout that were both good and disturbing. I enjoyed listening to the story, and I do think this would be a nice story to listen to more than once. It’s definitely not just for December!
