College Colors Day was founded in 2004 by the College Licensing Company. It is always held the Friday before Labor Day and is a great opportunity to show up your school colors. So who is the CLC? They are the licensing division for over 200 colleges in the United States. They license the college related merchandise we find at stores. The point of the holiday is to find pride and loyalty in a university/college community. According to https://nationaltoday.com/college-colors-day/, the most common color combination for universities is red and white.
