International Day of Charity on September 5 started worldwide in 2012 after the UN declared it an international holiday. It honors the tireless work of Mother Teresa, and provides a platform for other types of charitable work and donations. According to https://nationaltoday.com/international-day-charity/, “the Hungarian Parliament and Government established International Day of Charity in [Mother Teresa’s] honor in 2011. They chose September 5, the anniversary of her death, to commemorate her life with their civil service initiative.”
